Day 3 - Paris - Fontainebleau - Lyon
This morning we leave the French capital to drive southwards toFontainbleau, the former royal hunting lodge and visit themagnificent gardens and courtyards. Then we continue through therolling farmland of Auxerre and into the wine producing region ofBurgundy before reaching the city of Lyon, which stands at theconfluence of the Saone and Rhone rivers. Our orientation tourshows us the 19th century elegance of the Place de Bellecour, theOld Town along the River Saone, the modern architecture of the PartDieu district and views over the city from Fourviere, before wecontinue to our hotel where we dine tonight. Day 4 - Lyon - Avignon - Aix-en-Provence (2 nights)
This morning we follow the Rhone river southwards, passing by thetown of Montelimar where the delicious nougat originated and therenowned vineyards where great wines like Chateauneuf-du-Pape areproduced. Soon we arrive in Avignon where our orientationhighlights the monumental architecture of the 14th century Palaceof the Popes, the famous broken bridge of ''Sur le pont'' fame andthe bustling Place de I''Horloge. After free time to explore or shopfor Provencal souvenirswe rejoin the coach. Finally, to Aix-en-Provence, known asthe most popular provincial city in France. Day 5 - Aix-en-Provence sightseeing and at leisure
Our orientation shows us that Aix is a vibrant student city,abundant in elegant 19th century architecture as seen in the Placede la Rotonde and the Cours Mirabeau, café-filled traffic freesquares, naturally steaming warm water fountains and wonderfulshops and boutiques. Then we take a drive through the beautifulcountryside of Provence, visiting Menerbes, immortalized by PeterMayle in his book ''A Year in Provence''. Our destination is a familyrun winery which nestles among the famous ''perched villages of theLuberon'' there we enjoy a mouth-watering lunch of local Provencaldishes and learn about the excellent wines which are produced here.Later we return to Aix-en-Provence with time at leisure. (Buffetbreakfast / Be My Guest lunch)
Day 6 - Aix-en-Provence - Nice (2 nights)
This morning we drive through the beautiful Provencal countrysidewhich inspired so many artists over the centuries. Later we reachthe Mediterranean coast and the capital of the Cote d''Azur, Nice.Here we enjoy an orientation of this stylish city, which includesthe Promenade des Anglais, the Place Massena and the old town. Thenwe drive up to the chateau park for awe-inspiring views over thewhole city and the beautiful Bay of the Angels. Tonight we enjoy aHighlight Dinner in a localrestaurant. Day 7 - Excursion to Monaco and Monte Carlo
This morning we take a scenic drive to visit the tiny Principalityof Monaco where we will see the palace of the ruling Grimaldifamily and the cathedral where both Princess Grace and PrinceRainier are buried. Then we will drive along part of the Grand Prixcircuit to Monte Carlo and have the chance to visit one of thecasinos. Later we return to Nice with time to relax or maybe browsein the shops. (Buffet breakfast)
Day 8 - Nice - Cassis - Marseille (2 nights)
This morning we follow the coastal road via Frejus and pass byHyères, which overlooks the so-called ''Isles d''Or'' or GoldenIsles. We continue to the pretty town of Cassis, with free time forlunch, and an included cruise along the coast to see the rockycoves or ''calanques''. Later we travel on to Marseille, the mostimportant French Mediterranean port, and our hotel. Tonight weenjoy a Highlight Dinner in a local restaurant. (Buffet breakfast) Hotel: Radisson Blu
Day 9 - Marseille sightseeing - Arles and the Camargue
Our orientation tour of Marseille, christened ''the meeting place ofthe entire world'' by Alexander Dumas, includes the bustling mainboulevard, La Canebière and the morning fish market on theQuai des Belges. Then we drive to the Roman city of Arles, where wesee the Roman Amphitheatre, the Romanesque cathedral and enjoy aguided walk of the city, which will include the many associationswith the great artist, Vincent Van Gogh. Finally we drive into theCamargue, which stretches for over 360 square miles, and is westernEurope''s largest river delta. It is a vast plaincomprising large brine lagoons or étangs, cut off fromthe sea by sandbars and encircled by reed-covered marshes and isrenowned for the flamingos and white horses which make their homehere. Later we return to our hotel in Marseille. (Buffet breakfast)
Day 10 - Marseille - Via TGV - Paris sightseeing
This morning we take the high-speed TGV train from Marseille toParis in just three hours! On arrival our guided tour featuresviews of the Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysées, Notre Dame, theEiffel Tower and the Left Bank plus we visit the impressive tomb ofNapoleon in the golden domed church of Les Invalides. Later wecontinue to our hotel and tonight we celebrate the end of our tourtogether with our Tour Director at our Farewell Dinner in a localrestaurant. (Buffet breakfast / Farewell dinner)
Day 11 - Paris - USA
This morning after breakfast it''s ''au revoir'' today to our TourDirector and fellow travellers as our French tour comes to an end.There are transfers to Charles de Gaulle Airport available,conditions apply. (Buffet breakfast)

9 or more: If 9 or more people travel together, we offer attractive group discounts based on how many people travel. In a group of 9 passengers, 1 traveller qualifies for a 50% discount off the LAND-only portion of the tour. In a group of 16 passengers, 1 traveller qualifies for 100% discount off the LAND-only portion of the tour.

When travelling alone, we understand that some clients do not want to incur the expense of an additional single room supplement. With this in mind, on the majority of our itineraries, Trafalgar offers you the opportunity to purchase these tours on a room-sharing basis. We will accommodate you with a fellow passenger of the same gender on a ‘two-bedded’ basis (non-smoking rooms only). Please note that, regrettably, we cannot guarantee that room mates will be of a similar age group. Even so, it is an enjoyable way to travel and get to make new friends, and a positive way to stretch your holiday budget. If we fail to match you, we will provide a single room at no extra cost.
